CHERISH THE EARTH
CHERISH THE EARTH
Like a plea from the future, 150 aluminum zeroes and ones spell out, in binary code, the English characters C h e r i s h t h e E a r t h.
Binary code uses the binary digits 0 and 1 to represent letters, digits and other characters. A unique string of eight zeroes and ones corresponds to one character. In computing and telecommunications, binary codes are used for various methods of encoding data.
Each bit is a piece of aluminum inlaid in a solid makore table top. Makore, a beautiful African hardwood, is used for this table top where its quiet grain showcases the inlaid squares. The trestle-style base is composed of two ebonized ash panels and six aluminum tubes, angled such that the long axis of the base is parallel to the binary code strings.
